Have a go at wheel throwing (beginner)

Service Description

Come and try your hand at wheel throwing in a guided one-on-one session with professional industrial ceramicist, Simone Reynolds. Starting your ceramics journey with a one-on-one lesson is a less costly way to try wheel throwing, and figure out whether it’s something you want to dive into. One-on-one sessions provide a faster route to learning how to throw, without the noise and influence of a big class you can go at your own pace to practice and improve your technique. During this one-off throwing class you can expect to learn how to: 1. Prepare clay for throwing, 2. Centre clay on the potter’s wheel, 3. Make cylindrical forms, 4. Repeat! A few notes from Sim: Please bring a towel to keep things tidy. Cut your fingernails beforehand: long nails makes throwing tricky. Wear clothes you don't mind getting covered in clay or, bring an apron! If you have long hair, I recommend tying it up or pinning it back. Clay is provided for this one-off session. Expect to be able to make one or two small pieces. You will be able to select a glaze and your work will be available to collect a few weeks later. All other materials and tools are provided. Beginners kits are available for purchase at the studio if you would like your own tools. Lessons are 1.5 hours long. Wheel hire for practicing will be available for students, just ask Sim during your lesson if you want to come back and keep practicing. Everyone will get something different out of a beginners wheel throwing lesson like this as everyone learns at their own pace. Depending on the potter, some may make one object, others may make a few. For any objects you would like fired, you may choose a glaze, and I will contact you to collect your piece/s a few weeks later.
