Service Description
Learn the basics of wheel throwing through guided one-on-one sessions with professional industrial ceramicist, Simone Reynolds. One-on-one sessions provide a faster route to learning how to throw, without the noise and influence of a big class you can go at the pace you want or need to troubleshoot your technique. Depending on where each potter is at on their learning journey, in these sessions you can expect to: • Prepare clay for throwing • Learn how to centre clay on the potter’s wheel • Practice the steps in making cylinders and bowls •. Make objects with lids • Learn to make and attach handles or other extra features •. Learn about glazing and practice glazing techniques •. Repeat forms •. Work through your own projects/designs One-on-one sessions provide a faster route to learning how to throw, without the noise and influence of a big class you can go at your own pace to practice and improve your technique. A few notes from Sim: Please bring a towel to keep things tidy. Cut your fingernails beforehand: long nails makes throwing tricky. Wear clothes you don't mind getting covered in clay or, bring an apron! If you have long hair, I recommend tying it up or pinning it back. Tools provided. Beginners kits are available for purchase at the studio if you would like your own tools. Lessons are 1.5 hours long. Everyone will get something different out of a beginners wheel throwing lesson like this as everyone learns at their own pace. The benefit of taking classes by one-on-one sessions is that you can choose how many you want to take, and how often.
